Our children's theater class has spent most of this semester working hard performing for children at area elementary schools. Eight student cast members, plus the theater director, performed 17 shows at eight schools.

"Animalympics" centers around the theme of not giving up. When two students set out to pen this production, they kept in mind it would be performed in different settings such as a gym or a cafeteria.

Regardless of the venue, it was a hit. Teachers commented that their students were connecting the morals from the play to behavior in class. Students loved high-fiving the cast of "Animalympics" and interacting with the performance. And teachers and students appreciated how the play incorporated the fable of the tortoise and the hare in a new way. 

Kim Correll, lecturer in communication and theater, said this year's tour is twice the size of last year's, and she can't wait for next year as she hopes to continue expanding the children's theater tour.
